7/4/2023 0 Comments Aer backpack![]() ![]() The only thing noticeably missing is a set of load-lifters. The harness itself is basic but contours nicely to your upper body and does well under load. The harness is well padded and all human-facing sides are lined with a soft airmesh that unlike many other packs doesn’t seem like it will eat up the back of my shirts. I’d suggest that future iterations add a bit of texturing. The zippers themselves have custom, oversized Aer zipper pulls, which are nice and easy to grab, but were a little too slick for my liking. Zippers are a mix of YKK AquaGuard and what looks like a YKK #8. The entire exterior is 1680D Cordura which is light but durable and will shed light rain just fine. Tech SpecsĪer has gone all in on quality materials for the Travel Pack 2, which is necessary when you think about how much wear and tear travel gear goes through. This pack, like the rest of Aer’s lineup, was designed in San Francisco and manufactured in China. The Travel Pack 2 was designed with one-bag flyers in mind, focusing on offering convenience and ample space for both short and long trips. Since I have not used the previous version of this pack, the Travel Pack 2 will be reviewed based on how it stands alone rather than what was changed or improved upon. This bag falls into the latter, being the second iteration of this specific pack. Aer’s bags all fall into one of two categories: work or travel. Their styling is unique and has an obvious West Coast influence, so it’s no surprise that they call San Francisco home. They focus on simple, functional bags that lend themselves well to travel, whether it’s to and from work or through airport security. We also liked the Bellroy Classic Backpack and the Thule Vea Backpack 17L, but we concluded that our picks were better.Aer is a relatively new player in the bag game, getting their start in 2014 through crowdfunding, like many other makers nowadays. Testers enjoyed both the sporty Thule EnRoute Backpack 18L and the cute Herschel Nova Backpack Mid-Volume, but neither pack seemed to have the right aesthetic for an office commute. The eBags Pro Slim Laptop Backpack, the Arc’teryx Granville 20 Backpack, and the (very expensive) Sandqvist Alva all have designs that make it difficult to access their contents. We couldn’t fit a day’s worth of stuff into the Osprey Arcane Small Day, and the Lululemon City Adventurer Backpack 20L is too small to be a functional gym bag. Testers found both the Bellroy Classic Backpack Plus and the Public Rec Pro Pack Plus uncomfortable, and we determined that the Patagonia Black Hole Pack 25L was too bulky to work well as a commuter bag. The Matein Travel Laptop Backpack, an Amazon best seller, felt cheaply made and low quality. In previous years, we’ve tested and dismissed numerous other backpacks. Two elasticized water-bottle pockets add even more exterior storage. Two discreet zip pockets, ideal for a wallet and keys, blend into the Duffel Pack 3’s pleated exterior, while a third, plush-lined phone pocket is positioned at the top of the bag. An array of quick-access front pockets offer on-the-go convenience. ![]() You can stow your computer and other gadgets in the amply padded back compartment, which includes numerous slip pockets as well as a stretchy mesh zip pouch, perfect for storing a laptop charger. Its interior liner is treated with an antimicrobial coating that Aer claims will control odors and bacterial growth, and a ventilated shoe compartment, which unzips at the base of the bag, keeps stinky trainers from befouling your other gear. The backpack’s spacious main compartment opens like a duffel bag to allow easy top-to-bottom access to your duds. ![]() What really sets this bag apart, however, is its ability to organize and separate your office and tech accessories from your gym gear. ![]()
